Inherited from Proto-Southwestern Tai *jaːkᴰᴸ⁴ (difficult). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨿᩣ᩠ᨠ, Khün ᨿᩣ᩠ᨠ, Lao ຍາກ (nyāk), ᦍᦱᧅ (yaak), Tai Dón ꪥꪱ, Shan ယၢၵ်ႈ (yāak), Tai Nüa ᥕᥣᥐ (yaak), Phake ယက် (yak), Ahom 𑜊𑜀𑜫 (jʸak).
