  • Formally, the phrases shortened by this marker are read in full.
  • According to the style guide published by the Thai government, this marker is not preceded by a space. But a space is set after the marker, except when the marker is followed by nothing else or by a full stop or some other marks. Examples:

  • In old usage, this marker was placed before and after the shortened phrase, without any space between them. For example, ข้าพเจ้า was shortened as ข้า.
  • In old usage, this marker could be used to indicate the end of a sentence or paragraph in the same manner as Khmer .
  • In old usage, this marker was also used to indicate dates under the lunar calendar. For example, = Sunday, the second day of the waning moon of the third month (Sunday, the first day of the week, is represented by the figure one placed before the marker . The second day of the waning moon is represented by the figure two placed below the marker; if it is the day of the waxing moon, the figure will be placed above the marker. And the third month is represented by the figure three placed after the marker).
