Ancient Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Connection with Sanskrit अश्नाति (aśnāti, to eat, consume) and ἄκολος (ákolos, bit, morsel) is improbable. It is rather a Pre-Greek word, since -υλ- is a frequent substrate suffix.
