Etymology[edit]
The calqued English sense further derives from Euclid's famous retort to Ptolemy I Soter, who asked of him a simpler way to access the Elements: “Sire, there is no Royal Road to geometry.” (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
