Sino-Korean word from 間歇泉, from an orthographic borrowing from Japanese 間欠泉 (kanketsusen).

- Phonetic hangul: [간(ː)헐천]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
