Etymology[edit]
귀 (gwi) + 보리 (bori). First attested in the Dong'ui bogam (東醫寶鑑 / 동의보감), 1613, as Early Modern Korean 귀보리. Evolved into modern form through 귀우리
Pronunciation[edit]
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈkɥi(ː)ɾi] ~ [ˈky(ː)ɾi]
- Phonetic hangul: [귀(ː)리]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
