Sino-Korean word from 應對, from 應 (“respond”) + 對 (“opposite”).

- Phonetic hangul: [응(ː)대/응(ː)데]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
