From Proto-Tai *cetᴰ (seven), from Middle Chinese (MC tshit, “seven”). Cognate with Lao ເຈັດ (chet), ᦵᦈᧆ (ṫsed), Tai Dam ꪹꪊꪸꪒ, Shan ၸဵတ်း (tsáet), Tai Nüa ᥓᥥᥖᥱ (tsět), Thai เจ็ด (jèt), Bouyei xadt, Zhuang caet, Nong Zhuang jiat.
