Old Norse ijō-stem nouns.

These nouns are feminine, typically with the following endings:

  • in the nominative singular: -r;
  • in the genitive singular: -ar (usually -jar after velars);
  • in the nominative plural: -ar (usually -jar after velars).

The stem classes are named from the perspective of Proto-Germanic and may not still be visible in Old Norse inflections. The stem usually has i-umlaut throughout.
