Etymology

[edit]

Until the 16th century, this family was known as de Voarax or du Vuarrat. The patronymic, which later became Dewarrat, indicates that the family probably originated from Vuarat, a hamlet in Attalens, at the foot of Mont-Vuarat, canton of Fribourg, Switzerland.
