Originally a plurale tantum; from the Middle English Manichēs, Manichēes, Manachēes, Manychēis, from the post-Classical Latin Manichaeī, the nominative plural form of Manichaeus, from the Byzantine Greek Μανιχαῖος (Manikhaîos, “Manichaean”).
