Inherited from Proto-Balto-Slavic *kemeras, Proto-Indo-European *kemer-. Cognates include Lithuanian kemeras (Eupatorium cannabinum), Latvian cemeriņš (Helleborus), Greek χάμαρος (chámaros, Aconitum).
