Etymology[edit]

From *falskōn (to falsify, counterfeit) +‎ *-ī (adjective suffix). Alternatively reconstructed as *falsk, dissimilated from earlier *falsisk, from Latin falsum (falsehood, forgery) +‎ *-isk (adjectival suffix).
