The Yoruba words ọjọ́ and ijọ́ both come from the root *-jɔ́, but it is not clear if ijọ́ comes from this specific term. Regardless the meaning of the root "jọ́" is not, but perhaps it is a local Yoruboid innovation ultimately referring to the sky or the sun.
