@Rua What happens to z-stems in PWGmc? There is a also a z-stem noun *hailaz in PGmc which I am trying to untangle from the adjective. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 12:05, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

They lose the -az like the a-stems do. In the other forms, -iz- turns to -iʀ-. See Category:Proto-West Germanic z-stem nouns. —Rua (mew) 12:34, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
What evidence is there for the z-stem, btw? —Rua (mew) 12:41, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Anglom No clue, I'm trusting Anglom on this. I'll ping him. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 12:46, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
It was at the time what I interpreted Old Norse neuter 'heill' as representing. A separate noun meaning "omen, portent" is required by *hailagaz, "ominous, portentous > holy", since it is extremely unlikely that it would be derived from another adjective *hailaz, "whole".
