/s/ vs /z/ in declensions

[edit]

Shouldnโ€™t the inflected forms reflect โ€˜sigiz-โ€˜ instead of โ€˜sigis-โ€˜ given the original word-medial voicing on PG? I browsed the gothic bible and found no samples of the inflected forms, so is there any particular reason to represent them with the unvoiced sibilant? Is there any sound law I am not aware of that causes devoicing in this context or is it a case of assimilation? I looked at other samples of Gothic vocabulary of similar origin and those retain the devoicing, so could this be a mistake? Dah-wid-os (talk) 05:14, 21 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
