this suffix boasts 7 senses in English![edit]

I fear that the 'age' in orphanage would be an exceptional use as 'place' since, of all other words with that suffix, I can't find 'place' to be relevant. Even 'parentage' isn't a place. Orphanage probably implies that the orphaned children had to GO some place, and the social services took ACTION, and the RESULT was a place for a child without parents. 404asj (talk) 15:07, 15 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

as with 'adage' the 'ag(e)' comes from PIE "to drive, draw out or forth, move"
the hermit will have had to transfer locations to be in a "hermitage" 404asj (talk) 15:12, 15 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
ok, I digress, there is also alterage, and embassage, so it seems not to be the only case for place. 404asj (talk) 15:38, 15 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
still, we could argue that 'state' 'belonging' and 'place' are related. 404asj (talk) 15:43, 15 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
