Is this cognate with hodos and -tudo? Lysdexia (talk) 12:49, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation[edit]

How does it come to be pronunced hud not hode? This doesn't fit any other Old English word from Old Teutonic -ai-. W∴Bro∴ Froggo Zijgeb M∴ M∴ (talk) 19:30, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

First of all, Old Teutonic is a rather archaic name for Proto-Germanic. As for your question: I can't say without researching it, but two possible causes come to mind: the influence of hood, and the need to distinguish this term from -head. Chuck Entz (talk) 23:23, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
