Bath[edit]

Rfv-sense: (rare) Abbreviated name for the Arab Socialist Baath Party, a secular Arab nationalist political party present in several countries in the Mid-East, most prominently Iraq and Syria.. -- Liliana 00:40, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, there are a whole lot of people who think that Ba'ath is just a funny way of spelling a 1-syllable word, rather than a mostly phonetic way of spelling a 2-syllable word. Because of that, I'm sure you'll find lots of attestations. The issue isn't whether we should keep it, but whether we should reword everything to make clear which is the correct pronunciation according to the original source. Right now, the "soak in a tub" pronunciation is the only one supported by a pronunciation section. We should have that one marked as non-standard, and make Ba'ath, the more linguistically correct one, the main entry. It would also be a good idea to make sure we have an Arabic entry and wikilink to it in the etymology section.Chuck Entz 01:48, 19 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I've modified the definition, but if you search Google Books for "Bath party", this is clearly in widespread use. - -sche (discuss) 18:34, 24 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
For the record, I don't agree that that's what's meant by the "clearly widespread use" provision: but I'm not contesting this closure.—msh210 (talk) 15:28, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
