Catalan/Occitan

[edit]

Kinda weird that according to interwikis, in Catalan this means destroy, and in Occitan it means to educate or cultivate. Considering that they're both descended from Old Occitan (according to ISO-639 anyway) it's hard to imagine them having such different meanings. But it does happen. The etymologies are differents for this verb in Catalan and in Occitan. Abalir in Catalan is not descended from Old Occitan, but is a variant of the Catalan verb abolir ( from latin abolēre) (cf. [1]).Jiròni 17:50, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
