Czech bajt vs. byte[edit]

Some observations:

  • bajt seems to be used in the Czech localization of Windows.
  • Both byte and bajt are present in ASCS[1], in this order.
  • Czech has software and design while Slovak has softvér and dizajn. Czech may have a certain tendency to avoid phonetic spelling in certain areas, but this would have to be properly researched. On the other hand, Czech has džíny and džíp just fine, and these are phonetic spellings.

More:

  • The pluraly "byty" is ambiguous as for spelling: is it the plural of byt or of byte? By contrast, the plural "bajty" is unambiguous. Similar ambiguity is seen in inflected forms "bytu", "bytů" and "bytům" vs "bajtu", "bajtů" and "bajtům".
