IZE[edit]

I believe that someday, even exercise will be Americanized to "exercize". Why does S have to substitute for Z anyway?

Verb[edit]

Weird that we don't explicitly mention the verb sense meaning "to undergo physical activity to improve one's fitness." ---> Tooironic 01:55, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've added it now. Equinox 13:08, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The point of the exercise[edit]

This common phrase doesn't quite seem to be covered: e.g. in a business meeting: "Should the new system do X?" "Of course; I thought that was the whole point of the exercise." Equinox 14:33, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Missing religious senses?[edit]

Chambers 1908 has these (I am not sure I've parsed the sentence breaks properly):

  • An act of worship or devotion.
  • A discourse, the discussion of a passage of Scripture, giving the coherence of text and context, etc.
  • the addition, giving the doctrinal propositions, etc.
  • the Presbytery itself.
