Etymology[edit]

About the etymology, can it be derived from élény (él - -ény)? Qorilla 17:50, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

According to Gábor Zaicz: It's an artificial derivation from the prefix le- (a stem variant of the verb lesz) + -ny. Compare tény which is from the té- stem of tesz. Its original form was lőny, the current form was created during the Hungarian language reform by Mihály Helmeczy. --Panda10 22:37, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
