The the one word spelling is about twice as likely on google at this time (as measured by pages). Also, the word layperson has an entry in dictionary.com but lay person doesn't. Thus while 1.5 mega-googles is enough to justify an entry as an alternate spelling, it appears layperson is the preferred spelling.
