The pronunciation /ˈnɛ.gəˌɾɪv/ seems odd to me, I've lived in California for my whole life thus far, and I've never heard it said that way. The standard is /ˈneɪ̯.gəˌtɪv/, though I HAVE heard /ˈnɛ.gəˌdɪv/. X Parasite 23:57, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's a regional pronunciation. In most of the US (and rest of the world) the first vowel is "short". --EncycloPetey 04:51, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

"New Age jargon" sense[edit]

Is this not covered by sense 1 ("not positive or neutral")? See positive, "characterized by constructiveness or influence for the better". Equinox 17:48, 25 February 2014 (UTC) hi! we are talking about the adjective, don't we? i think meaning 4 & 5 are the most useful. (look at the next entry, too, please.) 193.224.72.252 12:15, 24 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I agree that this definition of the word seems redundant at best, and judgemental or wilfully leading at worst. At least one of the example sentences for that sense can be heard in the field of psychiatry and psychology, and I think there are a host of other senses that overlap with this very narrow definition that contributes nothing to the entry. 1. meaning[edit]

hello! sy please get rid of the first definittion, or reformulate it. (the etimology is helpful.) the 1st defintion of "positive" is exactly the opposite, so together they say nothing. — This unsigned comment was added by 193.224.72.252 (talk).
