Etymology

[edit]

The current etymology reads:

Borrowed from Northern Sami njalla, from Proto-Samic *ńëlë. Compare Finnish niliaitta.

I hate to point it out, but njal is nail in almost every proto-European linguistic group, and it doesn't mean an iron nail - wooden nails were more prevalent. It is also a name and / or nickname for tall skinny people. This isn't Sami, this is Germanic in origin. Proto-Samic has more in common with Sino-Turkic than Germanic so it's a loanword from Germanic linguistics. 121.210.33.50 10:06, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Your posting makes no sense, but then again you mentioned "Sino-Turkic", so maybe it isn't even meant to make sense. — surjection??13:44, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
