Maybe it's already been said, but could it be the insular Scots peerie is derived from Proto-Celtic *birros, "short"? It does make sense that the meaning changed slightly from short to small. Compare "peerie folk" mentioned in the article. Svenji (Talk) 15:45, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
