Talk:status quo

Is the "correct" form "statu" (ablative s.) simply because the known quotation is preceded by "in" (which takes the ablative) or is it for some reason ablative even when it stands alone? I would have thought the grammatically correct stand-alone form of the noun would be nominative status + ablative quo ("situation in-which").

Please advise!

I believe that it be 'status,' not 'stātus.'
