Sense 2: shelter (not specifically prison). In particular, "shelter" doesn't imply anything about 3 hot meals, so I think this is nonsense. Equinox ◑ 22:31, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

It does (usually) imply meals when talking about sense 2 of shelter, i.e. emergency shelters, homeless shelters, etc., which is what that sense was probably referring to (cf. "Emergency shelters are often derided as being just 'three hots and a cot'" [1]; "Intended as a compassionate turn from the 'three hots and a cot' emergency model, the transformation of homeless shelters into comprehensive treatment centers has its own shortcomings" [2]; "It is important that an emergency youth shelter be more than 'three hots and a cot'" [3]).

But the definition should definitely be more precise—The New Partridge Dictionary of Slang has room and board which seems like a better fit. —Al-Muqanna المقنع (talk) 23:02, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
