How far[edit]
My question is for the words 'downstream' and 'upstream'. The meanings are clear but how far is down or up stream? —This unsigned comment was added by 203.2.32.27 (talk • contribs) .
The words "upstream" and "downstream" do not carry with them any connotation of distance, so one millimeter upstream is still upstream. Rod (A. Smith) 18:24, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
"Upstream projects" in free software development[edit]
See this Definition of “upstream”, that corresponds to the quite frequent use of this word in the context of free software projects.--QuimGil (talk) 16:16, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- User:QuimGil: Added an adjective sense. Could probably also add a noun sense, as people often speak of "the upstream". Try mining Usenet for citations. Quite fun. Keφr 18:16, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
