From Celtic, either from Proto-Indo-European *tm̥H-ró-, from the zero-grade of Proto-Indo-European *temH- (dark); or from Proto-Indo-European *tm̥h₁-ró-, from the zero-grade of Proto-Indo-European *temh₁- (to cut).[1] From the same root of Thames and Tamarus.
