Etymology

From Middle Welsh amrwt, from Proto-Celtic *an- (un-) + *brutus (boiling heat) (compare Old Irish bruth), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrewh₁-. By surface analysis, an- (un-) +‎ brwd (boiled, heated).
