Etymology

[edit]

An anagram of vật báu due to influence of bảo vật, therefore effectively its misconstruction formed with a non-Sino-Vietnamese syllable and a Sino-Vietnamese one in a Sino-Vietnamese manner, and a non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 寶物 (treasure, SV: bảo vật). Compare goá phụ, cách mạng, sinh mạng, công bằng, phép thuật and words derived from chúa.
