Etymology

Borrowed from Hokkien, possibly 肉 (bah, “meat; pork”) + 肚 (tó͘, “tripe; stomach; belly”) + 大 (tāi, “big; large”), according to Manuel (1948). Compare hototay, goto, tito, and katay.
