Formed from brumă + ar, or inherited from Vulgar Latin brūmārius (compare Friulian brumâr (“winter”); cf. also French Brumaire, Albanian brymës (“November”)), from Latin brūma (“winter, mist”) (compare Romanian brumă (“frost”)).
