Etymology 1

From Proto-Mon-Khmer *cgəj. Cognate with Khmer ឆ្កែ (chkae, dog), Bahnar sơke (wild boar) and Ngeq cakɛː ("dog").

Khasi skei (Indian muntjac, barking deer) might be a loanword from a Sino-Tibetan language, cf. Burmese ချေ (hkye, barking deer), S'gaw Karen ခံ (takhee, deer), Jingpho chäkhji (barking deer), and is not directly related to the other Austroasiatic items.
