Etymology[edit]
From Spanish charro (“cowboy”) (or English charro, from that Spanish word), due to the association of the beans and of charro bean soup with Mexican cowboys.

- A pinto bean, as used in Mexican cooking, especially as used to make charro bean soup (a hearty, spicy, smoky soup flavoured with bacon).
