From Malay dadu (“die”), from Portuguese dado (“die”), from Old Galician-Portuguese dado, itself from a Vulgar Latin *dadu, of uncertain origin; possibly from Classical Arabic أَعْدَاد (ʔaʕdād, “numbers”), or from Latin datum.
