From des- + ayunar, possibly corresponding to a Vulgar Latin *disieiunāre, from Late Latin ieiūnāre, from Latin ieiūnus. Compare English dine, Catalan dejunar, French déjeuner, Italian digiunare, Occitan dejunar, Portuguese desjejuar.
