Etymology

From Western Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *di-ni, from *di + *-ni, from Proto-Austronesian *ni. Related to kani (“this”), kanhi (“in former times”), nganhi (“hither”), and anhi (“to come”), in a similar pattern with other Cebuano demonstrative pronouns. Compare dialectal Tagalog dini.
