Egyptian

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Afroasiatic *funVg-, according to Orel and Stolbova’s very tentative reconstruction.[1] If so, perhaps cognate with Lowland East Cushitic *fung- (“nose”), whence Oromo fuññaan.
