Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /ɡəˈʃʁiːən/, /ɡəˈʃʁiːn/
  • Audio:(file)

Verb

[edit]

geschrien (past participle, infinitive schreien)

  1. past participle of schreien

Usage notes

[edit]
  • Before the German spelling reform of 1996 (the Rechtschreibreform), both this form and geschrieen were part of official standard German. After that reform, only geschrien is standard. See also the usage notes about geschrieen.
  • The trisyllabic pronunciation indicated above is still the more regular pronunciation of the word, since inflected forms ending in -ien are normally pronounced [iːən] (compare Melodien). The disyllabic pronunciation is also correct, however.
