Etymology[edit]
From híja (“its lack, the lack of…”) + -n (case suffix), from the hé- ~ hí- form of the obsolete noun hiu (“void, shortage”) + -ja (possessive suffix). Compare hiány (“lack”) and hiányos (“lacking, deficient”).[1]
