From Proto-Aslian *ɟəʔaaŋ (bone), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *cʔaaŋ ~ *cʔaiŋ ~ *cʔi()ŋ (bone). Cognate with Khmer ឆ្អឹង (chʼəng, bone; skeleton), Vietnamese xương (bone).
