Etymology 1[edit]
From Proto-Finnic *käppä, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *käppä (“paw, hand”).[1][2] Cognate with Estonian käpp (“paw”), Karelian käppy, käppä (“bird's foot”) and Erzya кепе (kepe, “barefoot”).[3]
