From Proto-Semai *kalooʔ, from Proto-Aslian [Term?], from Proto-Mon-Khmer *kl(o)ʔ (shellfish; snail). Cognate with Mon ကၞု, Pacoh klɔɔ, Khmu klɔ́ʔ, Chong klɔ̂ː.
