Etymology[edit]

Sino-Vietnamese word from 氫氣, composed of (hydrogen) and (gas). The Chinese character (khinh) is composed of (khí, chemical radical for "gassy" elements) + (khinh, lightweight), due to the lightness of hydrogen.
