Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Vietic *-nɛːk (a nasal infixed form), from *kʔik ~ *kʔiək ~ *kʔaik (armpit). Directly cognate with Muong Bi néch; within Vietic, the uninfixed form can be seen with Tho [Cuối Chăm] kɛːk⁷ and Muong Bi kéch. Outside of Vietic, cognate with Khmer ក្លៀក (kliək) (through a lateral infixed form), Khmu [Cuang] klʔɛk (through a lateral infixed form), Mal kɛʔ (uninfixed), Mon ကၞက် (as in ပါၚ်ကၞက်, through a nasal infixed form).
