(First attested in 1690.) Borrowed from Ancient Greek ψευδώνυμος (pseudṓnumos), from ψευδής (pseudḗs, false) + ὄνῠμᾰ (ónuma, name) + -ος (-os), ὄνῠμᾰ (ónuma) being a dialectal form of ὄνομα (ónoma, name).
