Etymology[edit]
From Japanese 炉端 (robata, literally “side of irori”), from 炉 (ro, “irori”) + はた (hata, “side”).
Noun[edit]
robata (plural robatas or robata)
- A charcoal grill used to prepare Japanese food for customers seated around the cooking area.
- 2023 September 23, John Thornill, “Let's break the Silicon Valley monopoly”, in FT Weekend, Life & Arts, page 3:
- Flames periodically shoot upwards from the robata grill in the open kitchen.
- A restaurant featuring such a grill.
